Hrw: Titles, references, and links

Titles of Hrw

Below are some of the titles that I have found for Nb Hrw- some of the titles are sorted according to which Hrw in Whose name I found them used, but the first list is a more general gathering of titles wherein I can't really distinguish any particular Hrw being named. As with the others, I began this list long ago and never truly intended to share it publicly, so I didn't keep track of where I found most of them. I will come back and add to this list as I find more titles, to distinguish further between the many Hrw, or to credit the sources where I found the titles I already have:

Myths

There is a short myth telling of the birth of Hrw-Wr, along with His siblings Wsyr, Ast, Nbt-Ht, and Stkh. When their mother Nwt was pregnant, She was cursed not to bear Her children on any day belonging to any year. The wise consultant Djhwty managed to win five day's worth of light from the lunar ntjr Khnsw. And so Hrw-Wr, with His brothers and sisters, was born.

Another myth tells of the conception of Hrw Sa Ast during the brief interval between Wsyr's ressurection and His departure to rule the Beautiful West. He and His mother lived in the swamps of Lower Egypt, hidden and protected by the ntjrt Wadjt. But They were found by the forces of Stkh, and Stkh sent a scorpion or a snake (depending on the version you're reading) which poisoned the young ntjr. You can read what happened then, here.

Hrw's longest myth, however, is the famous "Contendings of Hrw and Stkh," which chronicles the conflict of these ntjrwy as They fight over the throne of Kemet. This myth has been posted to the journal library, and can be found here.

Hymns

It seems that the site I've been referencing for most of the traditional hymns to various ntjrw has gone offline.

  • In search of good ones which haven't already been posted. For some examples though, see the website links below.

    Suggested Reading

I have yet to find any books which relate specifically to Hrw, so for the most part you just have to pick up a general directory and look in the appropriate parts:

    - Not a traditional Kemetic site, but a nice one, and a very personal view of Nb Hrw.
